Why Operations Matter

Why mixed operations create coverage gaps

Cyber and E&O policies cover the activities they describe. When a business does more than one thing, part of the operation can fall outside those descriptions, or between two policies.

Definitions describe the business

Professional and technology services are defined in the policy. Activities outside those definitions may not be covered at all.

Policies are built for one industry

A Tech E&O form may not fit insurance, healthcare, or financial services work, and those forms may not fit technology work.

Exclusions target specific activities

Exclusions written for one line of business can unexpectedly remove coverage for another part of your operation.

Applications describe a moment in time

New services added after the policy was placed may never have been disclosed or underwritten.

Two policies can still leave a gap

Separate policies for separate activities need to fit together, or a claim involving both may land between them.

Endorsements fill specific needs

Some activities need endorsements to extend definitions or remove exclusions, and those must be requested.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quote and application questions, answered.

Have a question that isn’t here? Ask our team.

How do I get a cyber insurance quote?

Complete this application and submit it securely. A broker reviews it, follows up with any questions, and presents it to insurers suited to your operations, including specialty and excess markets for complex or high-limit risks. You receive quote options to compare before anything is bound. There is no cost or obligation to request quotes.

How long does it take to get a quote?

The application takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Quotes take a minimum of one business day after we receive your completed application. Timing then depends on the insurers and your risk: straightforward risks often receive quotes within several business days, while complex, high-limit, or hard-to-place risks can take longer. If you have a deadline, such as a contract start or policy expiration, tell us so we can prioritize it.

What affects the cost of cyber insurance?

Insurers price cyber and Technology E&O based on your revenue, industry and services, the type and volume of data you handle, your security controls (such as multi-factor authentication, endpoint detection, and backups), your claims history, and the limits and retention you choose. Strong, well-documented controls often improve both price and terms.

Is this a cyber insurance application?

Yes. It collects the information underwriters typically need to quote cyber liability and Technology E&O insurance, tailored to your operations. Completing it does not bind coverage. Insurers may ask follow-up questions, and some require their own signed application before coverage is bound.

Is my information saved or sent anywhere?

Your answers stay in your web browser. Progress is saved on your device so you can finish later, and you can clear it at any time. Nothing is sent to Complex Cyber until you submit your application. When you do, it goes to our team through our secure form provider, Cognito Forms, and you receive a confirmation email.

Can I finish later or on another device?

Yes. Progress saves automatically in the browser you’re using. To continue on another device, download your application file and open it there with the “Open an application file” link.

I used one of your complimentary tools. Do I have to start over?

No. When you choose Get Quotes in the Coverage Mapper, Cyber Insurance Limit Calculator, or Cyber Insurance Contract Checker, your answers are carried into the application on your device, so you only add what’s missing. The Coverage Mapper brings your business name, services, and current coverage; the Limit Calculator brings your recommended limit, revenue, and data details; and the Contract Checker brings the contract’s insurance requirements. If you already have an application in progress on that device, the tool adds to it instead of starting over.

Why does it ask about each business activity?

Cyber and professional liability policies define the activities they cover. When a business combines activities, such as selling software and providing professional or insurance-related services, underwriters need details about each one, and part of the operation may otherwise fall outside the policy’s definitions or be affected by an exclusion.

What happens after I send my application?

A broker at Cyber Data Risk Managers reviews your application, follows up with any questions, and submits it to insurers suited to your operations. Insurance availability and terms are subject to insurer underwriting and approval.
