Cyber & Technology E&O

Could Your Insurance Program Have Coverage Gaps?

Cyber and Technology E&O policies can differ significantly in the risks they address. Use this preliminary assessment to identify potential areas for further review.

Understand Where Your Coverage May Fall Short

Businesses face evolving cyber threats, technology dependencies, and contractual obligations. A policy that appears adequate based on its liability limit may contain exclusions, sublimits, conditions, or coverage restrictions that deserve closer examination.

This assessment is intended to highlight potential review priorities. It does not analyze actual policy wording or determine whether a claim would be covered.

Preliminary Coverage Gap Assessment

Answer six questions about your current insurance program. Select “Not sure” when you have not confirmed the coverage in your policy.

1. Does your cyber policy address ransomware-related losses and response costs?
2. Does your policy address business interruption resulting from covered cyber events?
3. Have you reviewed coverage for failures or outages involving third-party technology providers?
4. Have you evaluated coverage for fraudulent instructions, funds transfer fraud, or invoice manipulation?
5. Have you compared your insurance coverage against applicable customer or vendor contract requirements?
6. Have you reviewed your policy limits, sublimits, retentions, and key exclusions within the past 12 months?

Your Preliminary Review Priorities

These results are educational screening indicators, not a coverage determination, legal opinion, policy interpretation, or guarantee of insurance. A “Yes” response does not establish that a loss would be covered. Actual coverage depends on policy language, endorsements, exclusions, limits, conditions, and claim circumstances.
